English Performance is an English-language musical theater program produced by students at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School. Showcasing student-driven performances, the program allows young enthusiasts to passionately explore their love for musical theater. Here, Anh-Duy participated as part of the ensemble for the 2022’s production. English Performance is also where he got his first hands-on experience with technical theatre, being a lighting technician where he fell in love with the work and is determined to explore and experiment more with it.
English Performance 2024 presents an English-language play set in a futuristic, imaginative city where virtual reality games have evolved into a thriving and ubiquitous service industry. The story follows a group of friends, each with distinct personalities, as they navigate challenges that compel them to set aside their egos and pride. Along the way, they confront their own flaws, strive for self-improvement, and work together to unravel the mystery of a peculiar room. Through this journey, the play explores themes of personal growth, teamwork, and the human capacity to overcome inner conflicts in pursuit of a common goal.
Inspired by "Severance," English Performance 2022 follows Maddie, a young woman who begins working at a factory without understanding her identity. Her journey of self-discovery begins when she meets Alice, leading to revelations about her dark past and her alter ego, Madeline. Motivated by her mother’s death, Madeline created a "miracle cure" to bring happiness, but she unwittingly inflicted the same pain her mother suffered. The play concludes with Maddie's awakening as she confronts the hidden truths of her life.
